Bob Crone was one
of the good guys, a man who loved the Town of Chesterton and served on its
Town Council for 13 years. On Saturday, Dec. 18, Crone passed away at his
home--his dream home--at the age of 79, following a long illness.
On Monday night,
the Town Council opened its final meeting of 2020 with a moment of silence,
to remember a man who did so much to improve Chesterton residents quality
of life.
I had the pleasure
of working with many Town Council members, Town Attorney Chuck Lukmann
noted later in the meeting. None better than Bob Crone, some as good. He
was a gentleman who wore his heart on his sleeve and who always had this
communitys best interests in mind. Im going to miss him, and the town will
miss him.
Crone served
quietly on the council but wisely, and it was at his initiative that a
stormwater bond was issued in 2000 which drained and dried huge swaths of
Chesterton and made life more livable for a lot of folks. He also served
on the council which established the towns first tax increment financing
district, which has done so much to improve Chesterton infrastructure.
Crone retired from
the council in 2004 after he and his wife, Candy, had the opportunity to
purchase their dream home, a house they had long admired in South Park Acres
but located out of his 3rd District.
